Tyler Guyton: The Dallas Cowboys' Rising Star

Dallas Cowboys fans have a new name to cheer for this season: Tyler Guyton. The rookie left tackle, selected 29th overall, has already made a significant impression during his short time with the team.

Guyton's journey to the Cowboys began at the University of Oklahoma, where he started 13 of his 14 collegiate games at right tackle. It didn't take him long to transition to left tackle during training camp, where his exceptional skills have been on full display. “I thought he had some nice reps against Micah,” said head coach Mike McCarthy, highlighting Guyton's readiness for professional play.

One of the most striking aspects of Guyton's early career is his intelligence and confidence, both on and off the field. Cowboys' quarterback Dak Prescott couldn’t praise him enough. “The dude jumped up there and spelled it as fast without any hesitation as I have ever seen. Still mind blown to be honest with you,” Prescott said, referring to Guyton's quick thinking during a team jeopardy night. This intelligence translates directly to his performance, as Prescott further explained, “His intelligence and confidence for sure. It's showing on the field, too. The guy has picked up everything we have thrown at him... He comes back with the same mindset and does win it that time.”

Guyton's development as a left tackle has been accelerated by the support of his teammates, particularly left guard Tyler Smith, who has taken on a mentoring role. "He's helped me out a lot. He's like a big brother to me," Guyton mentioned. Smith, who also hails from Texas, sees boundless potential in his young teammate. "It's not very often that you find a human being who measures how he does, 6-7, 330 and has light feet and can just move and just bully dudes. The sky truly is the limit for him and his development," Smith remarked.

However, Guyton's transition hasn't been without its challenges. An illness sidelined him for three consecutive practices, and his return was gradual. "I'm feeling better, for sure. I'm just under the weather, working my way back now," he reported after his first practice back in a limited capacity. Despite this setback, Guyton's determination and adaptability shone through, enabling him to continue making strides in his performance.

One memorable moment was when Guyton stonewalled linebacker Micah Parsons during a padded practice. This feat not only emphasized his prowess but also earned respect from his peers. Parsons himself acknowledged the learning opportunity, stating, "Of course it did. We're both getting each other better... Going up against him, even losing, helps me out."

Off the field, Guyton is known for his engaging personality. During a rookie karaoke session, he chose to perform "Mary Jane" by Rick James, humorously stating, "It's a song that everybody knows is groovy and that would work." His antics have made him a favorite among teammates, adding to the positive culture within the squad.

As the Cowboys prepare for a joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams, all eyes will be on Guyton to see if he continues his impressive form. With Tyron Smith's legacy casting a long shadow, Dak Prescott offered sage advice: "He has to be Tyler Guyton. Doesn't really matter who played here before him... At the end of the day, you just need to be yourself and the best version of yourself."

Expectations are high for Guyton, and rightly so. With a unique combination of size, agility, and intellect, he is poised to be an impactful player on the Cowboys' offensive line. Fans and analysts alike eagerly anticipate his continued growth and contributions to the team.
