As the New York Giants chase their playoff ambitions, second-year wide receiver Jalin Hyatt is emerging as a pivotal component of their offensive strategy. The 6-foot, 185-pound athlete has made significant strides in his physical development, addressing one of the more challenging aspects of his preparation for the demands of the NFL. Gaining weight has been a deliberate effort for Hyatt, who acknowledges the difficulty of adding mass given his fast metabolism.
"It's definitely hard for myself (to gain weight). Some guys, it's easier for them to gain weight or gain muscle. For myself, it's harder. I burn a lot of calories quick. I'm just one of those guys that's got to just keep eating," Hyatt explained.
To tackle this challenge, Hyatt has incorporated Uncrustables, the popular frozen peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, into his diet. The tactic ensures he consumes enough calories without compromising the nutritional balance of his meals. The importance of maintaining a comprehensive diet is something Hyatt takes seriously.
"PB&J's was one of my biggest things, because you want to eat your full meal. You don't want to eat a little bit and drink a protein shake. Then you're not really getting anything. So, for myself, finishing, completing your full meals, and then, an hour later or 30 minutes later, that's when you put in an Uncrustables or a PB&J or a little protein shake," Hyatt detailed.
Hyatt's commitment to his physical conditioning is mirrored by his on-field performances. Selected in the third round out of Tennessee, Hyatt has quickly demonstrated his value to the Giants. His breakthrough came in Week 2 of the 2023 season against the Cardinals when he made a game-changing 58-yard reception, crucial to securing a narrow three-point victory.
Week 7 saw Hyatt continue his ascent, recording two catches for 75 yards in a hard-fought 14-7 win over the Commanders. Yet, it was in Week 12 that he truly cemented his status, achieving his first 100-yard receiving game in the NFL. His contributions were instrumental in the Giants' close victory over the Patriots, showcasing his ability to perform under high-pressure circumstances.
Hyatt's dedication and ambition extend beyond personal milestones. He maintains a team-first mentality, emphasizing the collective goals of the Giants.
"For me, I always set high expectations. Just looking at our team, looking at what we got—for goals, I just want a team goal. We have a playoff team. That's what we want to do. That's our focus and we're gonna get there," Hyatt asserted.
With such a comprehensive approach to both his physical and mental preparations, Jalin Hyatt exemplifies the qualities of a future NFL star. As he continues to refine his game and contribute significantly to the Giants' playoff quest, his story remains one to watch. The combination of his nutritional strategies, on-field achievements, and team-oriented mindset underscores his readiness to rise to the challenges of professional football.
