Nicklas Bendtner Acquires Team Singularity and Launches New Era in Esports
In a move that has caught the attention of both sports and esports enthusiasts, former professional soccer player Nicklas Bendtner has taken full ownership of the Danish esports organization Team Singularity. Bendtner, who once played for top-tier football clubs such as Arsenal and Wolfsburg, hung up his soccer boots three years ago and has since been exploring new ventures.
Transition to Esports
Bendtner's interest in the burgeoning field of esports developed during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he began playing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CSGO). His involvement wasn't limited to casual play; he became the owner of a small CSGO team named Prosapia Esport. The former footballer even participated in a showmatch at the Blast Premier Fall Finals in November 2022, playing for Team Denmark at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen.
Recognizing the immense potential in the esports industry, Bendtner set up an investment and management company called Legendary Gaming Group. This group aims to be a game-changer in esports, promising cutting-edge gaming experiences, elite talent development, and thrilling events. The company has already invested in several ventures, including New Breed Agency, Legendary Arena, and a yet-unnamed esports and gaming brand.
Formation of Legendary Gaming Group
Bendtner is not navigating this new path alone. He is joined by a team of seasoned professionals, including Team Singularity founder Atle Stehouwer, Tricked Esport founder Morten Jensen, Stephen Shine, and Jonas Rosbech. Speaking about the acquisition, Stehouwer remarked, “For the past two years, after being passive in Team Singularity’s operations, I’ve been in talks with numerous potential partners about various opportunities in the market and potentially starting something new. I’m thrilled and honoured to have found a proper home for Team Singularity under the Legendary Gaming Group wings and to have been able to bring a strong ownership group together to form the foundation of Legendary Gaming Group.”
Team Singularity has been a noteworthy entity in the UK/Nordics League of Legends NLC, having its presence felt from as early as 2017. They were once part of the old ESL UK Premiership. Tricked Esport, another team in the NLC, unfortunately closed down last year, adding to the significance of this new venture.
Future Endeavors and Announcements
The acquisition isn't the only exciting news for Team Singularity. The organization has teased a major announcement set for August 1st, 2024. While details are scarce, fans and industry insiders alike are eager to see what the new era under Legendary Gaming Group will bring.
Bendtner, who once held a publicized relationship with Caroline Luel-Brockdorff from Danish royalty, is often referred to by the media as “Lord Bendtner.” This title gained even more media attention when the Danish celebrity tabloid 'Se og Hør' bought him a square foot of land in Scotland, bestowing him the unofficial title of “Lord”. However, Bendtner’s focus seems unwavering as he carves out a new identity in the esports world.
Commenting on the journey ahead, Bendtner stated, “I am really pleased with the team we have assembled at Legendary and look forward to being part of something bigger in an industry I am fascinated by.” His role at Legendary Gaming Group is set to be an active one, although the exact title remains undecided as it depends on the roles of other sports profiles joining the group.
Legacy and Impact
Bendtner's transition from football to esports signifies more than just a personal career shift; it reflects the growing convergence between traditional sports and esports. With his extensive experience in professional sports and a track record of breaking records—such as scoring the fastest goal by a substitute in Premier League history (1.8 seconds after the ball was kicked into play against Tottenham on December 22nd, 2007)—Bendtner brings a unique perspective and competitive edge to the esports arena.
As esports continues to flourish, the entry of high-profile figures like Bendtner, and initiatives from well-respected entities like Legendary Gaming Group, will undoubtedly help in elevating the industry to new heights. The committed involvement of sports legends can spur enhanced visibility, greater investment, and more diverse talent development—further solidifying esports as a mainstream competitive field.
With the acquisition of Team Singularity and the promising endeavors of Legendary Gaming Group, Nicklas Bendtner is poised to make a significant impact, blending his sports acumen with the dynamic, ever-evolving world of esports.
